1. Go to a dentist no less than once per year. If you haven't been trained on what to do, ask him to tell you. You should brush your teeth after every meal, use dental floss. He should tell you these things, if he doesn't, change dentists. 2. Go to a doctor for a general checkup once per year. Make sure you get tested for cholestorol. On the initial visit, he should ask questions about your medical history. If he only asks about your current problem, change doctors. 3. Whenever you go overseas, check with your doctor to find out what injections you need. 4. Although we don't have a cure for the cold, we do have drugs that will mask the symptoms. 5. There is no need to get pregnant, we have a variety of contraceptives to stop that. 6. When having sex with a stranger, use a condom, or go to the doctor and get them tested, and use a condom until the test results come back. 7. If you have nowhere to live, go to your local police station, and they will tell you where to go to get emergency accomodation. 8. If you are hungry, go to the police, and they will direct you where to go to get emergency food. Find out from them how to get to your nearest social security office so that you can get non-emergency food in the future. 9. You should not spend or borrow money without knowing about basic financial management. You can get a book on that, e.g. "Making Money Made Simple" (in Australia) from your local library. 10. Your body needs certain vitamins in order to not get sick. It is best to get the vitamins from the food you eat, but it is also possible to buy a multivitamin pill which covers what we know about at least. You're especially at risk if you don't eat your vegetables. Your body also needs other types of foods, especially protein, so it's a good idea to not just eat cake. 11. If you are gaining or losing weight over a year, it would be a good idea to get a caliper test from your local gym, or maybe from your doctor, to find out how much fat you have. It's actually a good idea to do exercise too. 12. If you get sick, you can go to a local medical centre or hospital. If the medical centre "bulk bills", it won't even cost anything. The public hospitals don't cost anything either. But it's best to get your medical checkup from a doctor that doesn't bulk bill. You need a medicare card when you see a doctor, which you get by going to your nearest medicare centre. 13. Dial 112 in an emergency (fire, ambulance or police), from a mobile phone in any country, or a fixed line phone in Australia (and probably other countries). 14. If you see someone in the act of commiting a crime, you have the power to arrest them, using "reasonable force". Take them to your nearest police station. If you think it is wise and safe to make the arrest, anyway. 15. You need a drivers licence if you want to drive a car. See the RTA for further information. 16. You are supposed to enrol to vote, but if you don't enrol, they probably won't do anything to you. But after you've enrolled, you must vote in every state and federal election, or you will be fined. You can get out of the fine by just replying to them "I was sick" when they ask why you didn't vote. 17. Whenever you change address, you are meant to inform a variety of people, like the RTA, the electoral roll people. 18. We have an amazing number of cures for ailments, but you need to inform your doctor you actually have that ailment and it is bothering you. E.g. we can cure acne. 19. If you have children, make sure they are vaccinated against everything we have vaccinations for. Also, they need to be sent to school at a certain age. 20. There's a lot of laws, you'll only find out about them with a great deal of study, or when you get caught breaking one. 21. If you buy something from a shop, and it is faulty, you have a right to take it back and demand a refund or replacement, your choice. 22. You should report all crimes to your local police. 23. The toilets used in most western countries are not "squats". You're meant to sit on them like a chair, not put your feet on them! Your feet go on the floor. And in the case of men wanting to urinate, you're meant to lift the lid (the lid that you normally sit on). 99. Learn English. But if you don't know English, you can get translators (for free) at the hospital.
